This book was born out of our work to stop Operation Streamline on the Southern border, which essentially criminalizes immigration and causes family separation, trauma, and legal/civil confusion. Under the purview of the Federal Defenders of San Diego, our team observed legal proceedings and detainment conditions of Operation Streamline. With consultation of the CERES Policy Center and the NYU Law School, we submitted a report leveraging psychological research to assert that Operation Streamline was in violation of an individual’s constitutional rights to be knowing, intelligent, and voluntary in the adjudication process.
